Route Overview
- General Overview
- The route uses a network of sealed and unsealed back roads to explore the plains, coastline and hills of the central Wairarapa over two days.
The amazing scenery, remote tracks, some more challenging driving, and even a major waterfall will make this a trip to remember.
- Start/Finish Point
- The trip as described starts in Martinborough and ends in Pahiatua, but can be run in either direction.
- Terrain includes
- Everything from flat open plains, to narrow, windy climbs onto high ridges and unmaintained roads. There is even some beach driving.

- About 8 hours per day, including reasonable rest stops.
- Accommodation
- A very comfortable farmstay accommodation is used. Bookings required. A real country dinner and farm tours are available as options.
- Access Permission
- None required.
- Access Limitations
- For safety reasons, the unmaintained section may be closed after bad weather.
- Preparation and Safety
- Narrow roads, severe drops and logging in some areas mean that care is required. While easily achievable solo, a second vehicle is advisable due to the remoteness of some areas.
